Xampla Adds Ex-P&G Scientist to Its Ranks

2024-03-06

Xampla is making strides in the expansion of its eco-friendly, plastic-free Morro materials by bringing on board new talent for their commercialization efforts.

Dr. Francys Fernandez Zavarce steps into the role of Specialty Chemical Business Development Manager, tasked with the ambitious goal of introducing Morro materials to the FMCG markets on a larger scale.

With over two decades of expertise spanning chemical science and business development, her background features significant roles at leading firms like Adqot and Procter & Gamble. There, she honed her skills in crafting commercialization plans and spearheading the launch of new products.

Dr. Zavarce is set to lead the charge in introducing Morro materials to the market as eco-friendly alternatives to highly pollutive plastics, with a special emphasis on pushing forward the commercial success of Morro Coating.

Originating from plant sources, Morro Coating is designed to replace the enduring chemicals and plastic layers typically found on paper and cardboard packaging. This innovative material is not only fully biodegradable and suitable for home composting but also safe for use with food.

Her strategy includes working closely with industry leaders and uniting with technical and product development teams to boost research, development, and commercial endeavors related to the product.

This strategic move aligns with Xampla's ongoing successes, highlighted by a recent significant financial milestone where the company raised $7 million in funding, propelling its vision to eliminate plastic use further.

Recently, the company received a significant boost with the Innovate UK Smart Grant, in collaboration with the 2M Group of Companies. This partnership is set to greatly increase the production capabilities of Morro materials, aiming to reach several tonnes each day at the Milton Keynes manufacturing site operated by 2M.

This expansion is part of the company's ongoing growth, further energized by the appointment of Alexandra French as the new CEO last year. French is at the forefront of scaling Xampla's operations and fostering partnerships with top brands and manufacturers.

Alexandra French expressed her enthusiasm about the company's direction, particularly with the addition of Dr. Francys Zavarce to the team, highlighting the importance of expanding their pool of experts to achieve year-on-year growth.

"Francys is the driving force behind our mission to bring our groundbreaking natural materials to the forefront of the market, enhancing our research and development efforts," said the team at Xampla about their new addition.

Dr. Francys Fernandez Zavarce, taking on the role of Specialty Chemical Business Development Manager at Xampla, shared her excitement, stating, "I'm thrilled to be part of such an energetic company and to play a key role in the commercial advancement of Xampla's innovative products.

"The pressing issue of global plastic pollution ignites my enthusiasm for pioneering modern solutions. I eagerly anticipate working alongside Xampla's skilled team to reach new milestones and establish ourselves as frontrunners in the field of sustainable plastic alternatives."
